Women of BOOSTER: Meet Chiara Carbonera

At BOOSTER, we believe that the people behind the project are just as important as the technologies we develop. Through this series, we want to showcase the faces driving innovation, highlight their expertise, and share the stories of the women who are making a real impact in sustainable energy.

Chiara Carbonera is a professional in Advanced Energies R&D Program Management at Eni’s Research Center for Renewable, New Energies and Material Science (DE-R&D), the company’s hub for renewable energy innovation.

Her expertise lies in photovoltaic technologies, particularly third-generation solar cells, high-efficiency and high-stability solar cells, and solar energy integration and demonstrator deployment. Chiara’s work contributes directly to advancing innovative solutions that bring renewable energy closer to real-world application.

At Eni, Chiara plays a crucial role in supporting the company’s strategic transition from a traditional oil-based business to a leading integrated energy company with a strong focus on low-carbon and renewable technologies, where photovoltaics are central to the strategy.

Within the BOOSTER project, Chiara serves as the end-user representative. She is responsible for the installation of an OPV demonstrator at an Eni site, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of system performance. She brings long-standing experience in PV research, including small demonstrator design and performance assessment under real operating conditions, ensuring that project outcomes are both practical and scalable.

When asked about what inspires her work, Chiara explains:
“My motivation comes from the passion and satisfaction I find in the work I have chosen. I draw energy from the hope of a better world through research, and from the conviction that my efforts can improve both human life and the environment, now or in the future.”

Spotlighting women like Chiara in the BOOSTER project is important to showcase their leadership and contributions, inspire the next generation of scientists, and highlight the diversity driving innovation in sustainable energy.
